Overview of the Department of Medical Device Technology Engineering


The Department of Medical Device Technology Engineering was established as part of the College of Shatt Al-Arab University according to ministerial order No. 17213 on 17/10/2023. The first batch of students was accepted in the academic year 2023-2024. The department adopts the Bologna system, which includes four levels of study over eight semesters, and students graduate after completing 240 credit units.

Students study subjects related to electrical engineering, laboratory medical device engineering, topics related to medical physics, medical chemistry, and anatomy, as well as some subjects related to computer applications and mathematics.

The department contains several specialized scientific laboratories.

To qualify distinguished and innovative competencies scientifically, skillfully, and behaviorally in the field of medical equipment technology, keeping pace with corresponding departments in prestigious global universities by providing community services through the latest academic programs to create an advanced academic environment.
 

 

Mission of the Department of Medical Device Technology Engineering


The mission of the department is to prepare graduates in the field of specialization and to equip them with the principles of knowledge, scientific and logical thinking, and scientific research skills in medical device technology engineering. Additionally, it aims to instill the necessary skills for future communication with the community in various fields of work due to the need for this specialization in the province. Consequently, it prepares qualified graduates in the field of medical device technology engineering to meet labor market requirements, conduct theoretical and practical research, and provide advisory and scientific services to various sectors of the community.

 

Goals of the Department of Medical Device Technology Engineering


1. Graduate engineers with scientific and practical skills in diagnosing and repairing faults in medical devices.

2. Prepare competent engineers capable of keeping pace with rapid developments in medical device technology and equip them

     with the necessary skills to develop and update medical devices.

3. Install and operate various electronic and electromechanical medical devices, both diagnostic and therapeutic.

4. Contribute to and supervise the maintenance, calibration, and continuous operation of various medical devices.

5. Design, develop, and attempt to find alternatives for certain parts related to medical devices.

6. Schedule and program routine maintenance tasks.

7. Work to enhance performance standards, including the application of international standards in technical education.

8. Keep up with developments in curricula.

9. Strengthen connections between the department and various segments of the community.

10. Open and maintain communication with similar scientific institutions inside and outside the country.
